Yoke is easy burden is light – written on April 29th, 2024. Manzini, Eswatini.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

On the way to our care-point ministry (where we minister the gospel, feed kids, and play with many in the village) we passed these two donkeys. I saw the yoke that binds them together. Its rope. Rope is not heavy. Rope is light. Rope doesn’t sit on you like a metal chain collar or wooden boxed yoke.

The Spirit said, this is what my yoke is like. It is not heavy nor burdensome. It allows you to walk with me freely without heaviness, to follow along with Me.

1 John 5:2-4 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

  • The commands of God are life giving, they are not painful or hard. They give us freedom and true purpose. Keeping His commands to carry our cross, deny ourselves, lose our lives, trust Him, share Him with the world, are not only for our benefit but others as well. God help me to keep your commands that are not burdensome!

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and wherethe Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

  • We often associate freedom with a feeling, but liberty is so much deeper. It points to a release, a letting go of, a setting free from captivity, LIBERTY! When we walk with Jesus who gives us an easy yoke and light burden we are walking with His Spirit who gives us liberty! Hallelujah we walk in freedom in Christ! I don’t have to worry about my life or circumstances, or trials and cares because Christ is with me and upholds me.

We as believers, weren’t meant to carry the wight of life and its many responsibilities all alone. The Holy Spirit dwells in us to help us stay in touch with God through our prayer life and ministry. He wants to alleviate the wight and load. If we don’t walk in the Spirit, we will operate in the flesh. We will toil in the flesh. We will run and grow tired. We will walk and grow weary. We will become bitter and worn out. If we don’t learn to walk in harmony with the Holy Spirit, the Christian life will become a difficult yoke and ministry will become a heavy burden.” Host the Holy Ghost, Vlad Savchuk

Ive been mediating on the easy yoke of Jesus and resting in Him. He strengthens me and renews me as I follow Him and become like Him. To walk in His liberty and freedom from burdens and heaviness! Here is a house of prayer about renewed strength from His love: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1szkkQmbnE3u7boGyXltMewrBmmMstmQe/view?usp=sharing

Pray for me to continue abiding in Jesus and His easy yoke!

One response to “Easy Yoke and Light Burden”

  1. I love the picture of the two donkeys with a rope around their neck and the message God gave you through that picture. When we’re held captive by sin, we don’t even know we’re in bondage. But when we’ve been set free we KNOW it!
This really stuck out for me: “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” It’s a done deal…we just walk it out!
