Isaiah 28:23 Listen and hear my voice. Pay attention and hear what I say.

This morning while praying on my Daniel’s porch (balcony), I saw two birds on the tree limb trying to add to their nest with straw. One bird was closer to the nest, the other bird was carrying the straw in its beak. The birds began twisting heads and shoulders through body communication, but no verbal communication. The bird with the straw then dropped the straw, and turned around, a second later, flew away.

The Lord showed me this is what our communication is like with God, when we don’t have clear and direct communication with God. We have stuff in our mouths and dont sit to hear what God says back. We turn around and fly away without waiting on Him and believing what He says.

His people don’t know how to communicate with God, His people don’t know how to hear His voice. We don’t know how to build our lives according to what God is saying. We don’t know His plans or His steps, we don’t know His voice or are led by His Spirit, we act on our own will and our own movements, not His.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.

-it is critical in this season with God that we know His voice and obey-

-it is crucial that we know His plans for the church/our lives-

(^This is my “Solomon’s Porch” where I pray and spend time with God daily!^)

Matthew 7:24-27 24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

  1. Do we build our lives upon the words of Jesus?
  2. Do we hear the words of God giving us instruction for life?

John 6:63 The Spirit is the one who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

The words of Jesus were spoken and given to us that we may have true life which comes from His Spirit. He gives us true abundant life (John 10:10). Building our lives upon the words of Jesus is the most beneficial thing we can do because it gives true life.

Romans 4:18-21 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

We are not Abraham, and this isn’t about being righteous. This is about having open ears and faith to what God is speaking to us as His Church, and individually. There are promises He wants to speak to us (2 Corinthians 10:1), there are plans He wants to share (Jeremiah 29:11), there are tasks and good works He has set before us (Ephesians 2:10), there are wonderful mysteries and revelations He wants to inspire our hearts in Christ with (Ephesians 1:17).

Do we have open hearts to His words, and open ears to His voice?

I want to be fully persuaded in faith to build my life upon the words of Jesus and His voice. I want to intimately know Him forever.

I hope this writing encouraged and convicted you just as it has me!

Thank you for reading!

  1. This is an insightful and encouraging message – also thought-provoking. I like the scriptures referenced and will pray into this. Love to you always!

  2. The example of the birds so reflects my life so often! I’m continuing to practice listening to God and being sensitive to His guidance. Truly, knowing God and following His guidance is the most important thing in our lives. Everything else may fail, but God remains forever!
